Myth number one: metal roofs cost too
much.
Fact: Initial costs range from slightly
more than premium asphalt roofing materials to more expensive for copper double lock standing seam. However, due to low
maintenance and long life, metal roofing is one of the lowest cost roofing materials
available.
Myth number two: metal roofs make more
noise in rainstorms.
Fact:
Metal roofing installed on top of
roof decking, above an insulated attic space makes no more noise than a shingle roof does.
This misconception comes from the association people make with metal sheds and
barns, which have no decking and are not insulated.
Myth number three: metal roofs attract
lightning.
Fact:
Metal roofs do not attract
lightning. The highest point in an area attracts lightning--not exclusively metal objects.
(How many lightning scarred trees have you seen?) If lighting strikes a metal roof, the
roof conducts and dissipates the electrical charge. Metal roofs are also non-combustible
and won't burn if struck.
