Existing Built Up Roof Surface

At the end of a built up roof's life span it is not necessary to re-roof with the same high maintenance, short life roofing materials--whether standard built type roofing (tar and gravel) of any of the single ply roofing materials such as EPDM . The obvious low cost, long-term alternative is metal roofing. The worn out flat roof need not even be removed, though removal of ballast materials, such as gravel, is recommended. The sloped retrofit frame section is attached directly to the old roof.

Retrofit Frame Section

The retrofit frame section is constructed of lightweight galvanized metal studs and hat sections. A minimum slope of 2/12 is mandatory for most metal roof panel profiles; however, a steeper slope can be used. Smaller metal frame sections can be fabricated in the shop then transported and installed. For larger roofs, the retrofit frame sections can be fabricated directly on the roof.

Vinyl Backed Insulation

Vinyl backed insulation increases the building's R rating, saving utility costs over the life of the roof.  Considering how long these roofs last, that can add up to a substantial return on your investment.

The Metal Roof Panel

The metal roof panels are available from MBCI in a variety of profiles and colors and, including Galvalume ®. The panels come cut to length for each individual job and roof section, eliminating problems with cross joints.  Pre-finished metal roof panels offer twenty -five years or more of maintenance free service and only minimal maintenance such as painting thereafter. Roofs of this type often last fifty years or more.
